"Empty Files debut album 'Shadows' is a shining accomplishment of how genres like electronic, experimental, industrial and rock can fuse into something truly beautiful as well as memorable. As a whole, the album is balanced, beautifully produced and extremely memorable. You will find yourself coming back to this album again and again.
The album starts off with a really strong track, 'One Step Out', which does an excellent job for setting the stage for what you are in store for with the album as a whole. Atmospheric, balanced and rhythmic; this song will have moving along as it surrounds you with sonic layers of electronic and rock. When it ends and you catch your breath, you'll be hooked and ready for more.
A true example of balance is the song, Hollows, which starts out somewhat chaotic, but is then brought to order as the song builds slowly. Layer after layer, sound after sound the song builds to a beautiful crescendo just past the half-way point.
I found it hard to pick favourite songs on this album because each song has something to love. There is the title track itself, Get Up, Fire Tongue, which is a truly surprising change-up that you will love and then there is the song Observers. If you asked me in this moment of time, all of these are my current favourites.
If you're a fan of electronic, experimental, industrial or rock you owe it to yourself to check out Shadows by Empty Files. Fans of groups like David Bowie, Gary Numan, Nine Inch Nails or Skinny Puppy will feel right at home here."
